Privacy Policy

Saskatchewan NDP Caucus
Effective date: May 18, 2026

YOUR CONFIDENTIALITY MATTERS.

This site exists to give Saskatchewan residents a safe way to report concerns about the use of public funds. We take the privacy of every person who contacts us seriously. This policy explains clearly what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

1. WHO WE ARE

Open The Books is operated by the Saskatchewan NDP Caucus, located at 2405 Legislative Dr, Room 265, Regina, SK S4S 0B3. We are the data controller for all information submitted through this website.

Questions about this policy can be directed to tips@openthebooks.ca or by calling 306.787.7388.

 2. WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

The submission form on this site collects only the information you choose to share. The form includes:

  • Your concern or disclosure — the only required field. This is a free-text description of the issue you are reporting.
  • Contact information (optional) — you may voluntarily provide your name, email address, and/or phone number if you wish to be contacted. You are never required to identify yourself.
  • Supporting documents (optional) — you may attach files such as documents or images to support your submission.

We do not ask for, and ask that you avoid sharing, sensitive personal identifiers such as Social Insurance Numbers, financial account details, or health information unless directly relevant to your disclosure.

 3. HOW YOUR SUBMISSION IS TRANSMITTED AND STORED

When you submit the form, your submission is transmitted securely over an encrypted HTTPS connection and delivered by email to Saskatchewan NDP Caucus staff responsible for reviewing disclosures.

Submissions are not stored in a public database. They are retained in internal, access-controlled email systems and reviewed only by designated caucus staff on a need-to-know basis.

Important: As with all email-based systems, submissions are not end-to-end encrypted beyond the point of transmission from this website. If you require a higher level of anonymity or operational security, we recommend contacting us through an anonymous email provider or consulting a trusted legal advisor before submitting.

4. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

Information submitted through this form is used solely for the following purposes:

  • Reviewing and assessing the disclosure you have submitted.
  • Following up with you if you have provided contact information and consented to being contacted.
  • Informing future communications, advocacy, or public interest work by the Saskatchewan NDP Caucus — only if you have checked the consent box on the submission form.

We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

 5. WEBSITE ANALYTICS AND THIRD-PARTY SCRIPTS

This website uses Google Site Kit, which may load Google Analytics. This tool can collect information about your visit, including your approximate IP address, browser type, and pages viewed, and transmits that data to Google’s servers.

If you are a current or former public sector employee considering submitting a disclosure, we recommend the following precautions:

  • Use a personal device not connected to a government or employer network.
  • Consider using a privacy-focused browser or a VPN to mask your IP address.
  • Consider using a private/incognito browsing window, which limits some local tracking.

We are actively reviewing our use of third-party analytics on this site and may remove or restrict it from disclosure-related pages in order to better protect visitor privacy.

 6. YOUR LEGAL PROTECTIONS

If you are a current or former public sector employee in Saskatchewan, you may be protected by The Public Interest Disclosure Act, which prohibits employer retaliation against employees who report wrongdoing in good faith. This protection applies regardless of whether you submit your concern anonymously or with your name attached.

We encourage you to review the Act directly or consult a legal advisor if you have questions about your specific situation before coming forward.

 7. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER CANADIAN PRIVACY LAW

The Saskatchewan NDP Caucus handles personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy legislation. You have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to legal obligations.
  • Withdraw your consent to communications use at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at tips@openthebooks.ca.

 8. RETENTION

Submissions are retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which they were received, or as required by applicable law. Submissions that do not lead to further action are reviewed periodically for deletion.

 9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted on this page.
